You are now ready to install the driver and application software for your Infrared Drive
Windows 95 users: versions OSR2 or later are designed to detect the presence of an IrDA port on your computer.  Once the Infrared Drive is installed and enabled, Windows 95 OSR2 will detect the presence of this new device and installed a native device driver automatically.  However, if you still have the original Windows 95 version, you need to download the IR driver.

If  Windows 95 automatically detected the Infrared Drive, please jump to step 4:

    1) Go to the Start Button and select settings from the first window. Then select Control Panel from the following selection. Once the control panel is up, select the Add New Hardware icon. Select Next from the first window.

    2) In the second window, the program asks you if you want Windows to search for the new device. Select NO and select Next. Windows then enters the next selection and a list of different types of Hardware comes up. Select Infrared from the selection. (If the Infrared icon is not available, you need to download the IR driver, and follow the driver installation instructions. )

    3) Select next. Windows will then tell you that it will ask for virtual COM and LPT ports. Select next and a list of available  ports will show up.

    4) Please select COM and LPT ports that are NOT currently utilized. Typically a virtual port such as COM5/LPT3 will suffice. Select next and allow Windows to restart your system.

    5) After Windows restarts enter the Control panel again and select the Infrared icon. Select the options tab and make sure that the Infrared is enabled on the real COM port selected in the CMOS BIOS.

    6) If infrared does not start, go to "My Computer", do a single right-click and select properties from the list. Then select the Device Manager tab. A list of different devices will be shown. Please expand the ports tree and look for conflicting IO, and IRQ resources by selecting the port and looking under resources. Manual changes may be changed by the user by deselecting the use automatic settings and selecting a free COM/IRQ address.

Make changes / restart the system / and repeat steps 5-6 as necessary. When there are no more conflicts, the Infrared Drive should be working.

Upon successful installation of the Infrared Drive, Windows will create an Infrared Icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen (your right side of the command bar).

When another infrared device is detected to be in range, this icon will turn from a single shining red light bulb to two red light bulbs facing each other.

To allow IrDA file transfer between 2 computers, you should load the IR File Transfer Program on both systems. Windows 98 users have this program intergrated. There is no need to load this file. To  transfer data with consumer electronics such as digital cameras, cellular phones, etc. You may need to load additional software that comes with the products.
